Poul Series: Tulip Chair

USD $1,060.00

The Tulip Chair, model PK9, was designed by Poul Kjærholm in 1960, a trained cabinetmaker and graduate of the Danish School of Arts and Crafts. Also known as the “Tulip chair,” the PK9’s unique form is characterized by three pieces of steel that act as a column, legs, and support for the upholstered seating element. The design was inspired by a sand imprint of Kjærholm’s wife’s behind, which he used to find the optimal seating shape. This chair combines Kjærholm’s fascination with steel and his love for natural materials. Poul Kjærholm once remarked, “Steel’s constructive potential is not the only thing that interests me; the refraction of light on its surface is an important part of my artistic work.” The PK9 chair is suitable for both dining and side chair applications.
