The PK20 Lounge Chair by Poul Kjærholm was designed in 1955. The hide version was originally conceived as a lounge chair that could utilize leftover leather strips from other furniture production. The PK20 is recognized by its high-back design and unique cantilevered spring steel structure—a material of choice that underscores Kjærholm’s fascination with steel’s structural and light-refracting qualities. Kjærholm stated, “I am very interested in the interaction between light and materials, and the way light affects materials is a crucial part of my design process.” This Rattan Wicker version features a seat and backrest made of natural wicker, offering a minimalist, breathable seat and lower backrest than its hide counterpart. The PK20 has become a furniture design classic and is part of the permanent collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
