Poul Series Sofa: Two-Seater Loveseat

The PK31 Two-Seater Sofa Loveseat was designed by Poul Kjærholm in 1958 as part of his renowned PK31 series. The series is recognized by Kjærholm’s dedication to using industrial and natural materials, and his pursuit of the ideal form. The PK31-2 is noted for its exacting height, depth, and seat proportions that individually form perfect cubes. It is constructed with separate panels for the seat, back, and sides, all supported by a steel frame connected by a steel bar that varies in length depending on the series piece. Kjærholm once remarked, “I am trying to express the very language of the materials themselves.” This philosophy is imprinted in the PK31 series, where the natural beauty of the upholstery and steel is highlighted through their contrast, precise lines, and minimalism.
