This Dining Table was originally designed by Florence Knoll, introduced as part of her 1961 classic collection. Florence Knoll’s work is characterized by its reserved elegance and geometric precision, with visible influence from her mentor Mies van der Rohe.

Florence Knoll modestly referred to her designs as the “meat and potatoes” of furniture, emphasizing their essential nature. This dining table can also be used as a meeting table.

Florence Knoll Bassett (1917-2019) was a pivotal American designer, architect, and entrepreneur, recognized for her contributions in shaping the modernist furniture, corporate interiors, and modern architectural landscapes. Knoll studied at the Cranbrook Academy of  Art and the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, mentoring alongside Eero Saarinen, Charles & Ray Eames, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and other iconic designers. Her design approach included functionalism, modernism, integration, attention to detail, and collaboration.

The 1961 Dining Table features a minimalist design with a rectangular surface choice of stone, glass, or wood, supported by solid steel bar legs connected to horizontal steel tube rails. The stone top versions have a tension rod substructure to support the weight of the marble top and prevent deflection​​.

This rectangular Long version Dining Table is the largest of the series, based on the Florence Knoll archives. It measures 94.5″ long, 39.375″ wide, 28.375″ high.
