The Barcelona Coffee Table, Model 252, was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in collaboration with Lilly Reich for the German Pavilion at the 1929 International Exposition in Barcelona.The Barcelona Coffee Table features a steel “X” form base supporting a thick plate glass top with beveled edge. This iconic piece utilizes Mies’s architectural philosophy of “less is more,” with its precise lines, functionalit, and minimalism, mirroring his larger architectural works such as the Seagram Building and the Farnsworth House. Mies once stated, “Form is not the aim of our work. It is the result. The table is a perfect complement to the Barcelona Chair, Daybed or other pieces from the series.
