The Capitol Complex Armchair was originally designed by Pierre Jeanneret as part of the Chandigarh Capitol Complex project in the 1950s. Chandigarh was a major architectural endeavor led by Jeanneret and Le Corbusier, which aimed to symbolize India’s post-independence optimism and modernist ideals.
The Capitol Complex Series Chairs were part of Jeanneretโs furniture contributions to the project. This armchair features a unique construction in oak or teak, with a Viennese cane seat and back. It is characterized by strong, geometric lines, minimalist proportions, and distinctive upside-down V-shaped side supports.
The Capitol Complex Armchair is a timeless and significant piece of furniture design history.
