The Le Bambole by Mario Bellini Modular Seating system was designed in 1972 and awarded the Compasso d’Oro in 1979. This Bambolina element is a one-piece seat that functions as a lounge chair on its own or an inner piece of the larger Le Bambole system. The originally released Le Bambole series is recognized for its unique construction and is included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. Bellini described Le Bambole as “not upholstered with fabric, but built in fabric,” highlighting its design in which the frame and padding is built within the fabric, cold-shaped polyurethane foam and polyester fiber. The frame is constructed from durable polyethylene. The cover is available in fabric or leather. Bellini once stated, “Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works,” reflecting his commitment to functionality in furniture design. The Le Bambole Series is a multifunctional seating system with endless configurations based on the setting or mood of the time.
