The MR Armchair with Leather Sling was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe as part of the MR Collection first introduced at the influential Stuttgart Weissenhof Estate exhibition in 1927. The MR Armchair combines the structural innovation of tubular steel with the elegance of a leather sling seat. The MR Chair reflects Mies’ philosophy of “less is more” by removing superfluous elements and focusing on the essential. The cantilevered design was influenced by the use of tubular steel by fellow Bauhaus master Marcel Breuer and by 19th-century iron rocking chairs. The MR Chair has been featured in various films such as “Widows,” “Weekend at Bernie’s,” and the “Prometheus” promo short film and is featured in the Victoria and Albert Museum collection in the UK. The MR Chair Armchair with Leather Sling is also available in an armless version, MR Side Chair, with both versions available in leather sling or cane rattan options.
