The MR Lounge Chair was originally designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and introduced in the late 1920s as part of the MR Collection. Influenced influenced by Marcel Breuer’s use of tubular steel and the curved forms of 19th-century iron rocking chairs, Mies combined these elements into a cantilevered frame that used modern materials to balance strength and flexibility. The belting hide seat and high-density foam padding ensure comfort and durability, while the minimalist outline reflects his principle that “less is more.”
The MR Lounge Chair earned recognition with the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) Award in 1977 and the Design Centre Stuttgart Award in 1978, highlighting its impact on modern design.
