The PK20 Lounge Chair by Poul Kjærholm was designed in 1955. Originally conceived as a lounge chair that could utilize leftover leather strips from other furniture production, the PK20 is recognized by its sewn leather strip seat and back support, high-back, and unique cantilevered spring steel structure—a material of choice that underscores Kjærholm’s fascination with steel’s structural and light-refracting qualities. Kjærholm stated “I am very interested in the interaction between light and materials, and the way light affects materials is a crucial part of my design process.” This Leather & Hide version’s seat and backrest are upholstered in natural hide and includes a matching bolster headrest. The PK20 has become a furniture design classic and is part of the permanent collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The PK20 is also available in a minimalist rattan wicker version with a lower backrest. Shop the PK20 Lounge Chair by Poul Kjærholm, model PK20 in Leather & Hide, in Canada.
