The 1956 Lounge Chair & Ottoman: AM feature molded plywood, 7-layer plywood shells and high-quality leather, suede, or fabric upholstered cushions. The Lounge Chair rests on a five-prong cast swivel aluminum base, while the Ottoman uses a four-prong base. The American base in this pair differs from its European counterpart, having a more angular, spider-like appearance with distinct feet.
The 1956 Ottoman is designed to serve as a footrest for the 1956 Lounge Chair but can also function as impromptu seating. The chair & ottoman have removable cushions that fit each other to allow rotation for even wear.
Introduced in 1956, the original Charles & Ray Eames design of this Lounge Chair & Ottoman is part of the permanent collections at MoMA in New York, the Henry Ford Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
The Archetype Forms 1956 Lounge Chair & Ottoman are also available with a distinct European-released base.
