Warren Platner graduated from Cornell University in 1941 with a degree in architecture. He honed his skills working with architectural legends like Raymond Loewy, I.M. Pei, and Eero Saarinen. By 1967, Platner shifted his focus to include furniture design, lighting, textiles, and interiors. His Platner Collection remains his most iconic contribution to furniture design, celebrated for its “decorative, gentle, graceful” forms that defined the aesthetic of the 1960s.
Platner described his design philosophy, stating, “A classic is something you look at often and always accept as it is, because you can see no way of improving it.” His timeless designs are featured in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and have appeared in popular culture, including the James Bond film Quantum of Solace.
