Florence Knoll's Low Coffee Table design was created to furnish the new interiors of postwar America. It translates architectural lines, gestures, and materials into a functional domestic form, influenced by Mies van der Rohe's principles. Florence Knoll Bassett was a pivotal American designer, architect, and entrepreneur, recognized for her contributions in shaping the modernist furniture, corporate interiors, and modern architectural landscapes.

Knoll studied at the Cranbrook Academy of  Art and the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, mentoring alongside Eero Saarinen, Charles & Ray Eames, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and other iconic designers. Her design approach included functionalism, modernism, integration, attention to detail, and collaboration.
