Archetype Forms 1954 Square Table: Moyenne
This 1954 coffee table features a minimalist design with a square surface choice of stone, glass, or wood, supported by square tubular steel legs and rails. It is based on the Florence Knoll archives and measures 35.5" x 35.5" x 17" high.
Florence Knoll's Coffee Table design was created to furnish the new interiors of postwar America. It translates architectural lines, gestures, and materials into a functional domestic form, influenced by Mies van der Rohe's principles.
This table is slightly taller, with a smaller footprint than the coffee tables from the series. It is a balance between low-profile coffee tables and occasional tables, making it practical for holding drinks, books, plants, and decorative items.
Florence Knoll's original design of this coffee table was featured at the Philadelphia Museum of Art's "Florence Knoll Bassett: Defining Modern."
