The 290 Plank Sofa was originally designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1953. This 3-seater sofa is recognizable by its broad armrests and visible external wooden frame, giving it its "plank" moniker.
Wegner’s philosophy in furniture design was to create pieces that were functional and exceptional. He famously said, "I have always wanted to make unexceptional things of an exceptionally high quality."

The 290 series sofas and chair have been included in numerous exhibitions, including the Cabinetmakers' Guild Exhibition in Copenhagen for its release. Wegner's work has earned him several lifetime design awards, including the Grand Prix at Milan’s Triennale in 1950 and the Lunning Prize in 1951.
