The Poul Lounge Chair was originally designed by Poul Kjærholm in 1955 as the PK20. Conceived as a lounge chair that could sustainably repurpose leftover leather strips from other furniture production, the Poul Lounge Chair is recognized by its unique cantilevered spring steel structure and its sewn leather high back and curved seat.
Steel was a material of choice that underscores Kjærholm's fascination with its structural and light-refracting qualities. Kjærholm stated, “I am very interested in the interaction between light and materials, and the way light affects materials is a crucial part of my design process.” The Poul Lounge chair's blend of industrial and natural materials reveals the inherent beauty of each.
