The Partir Ducaroy Loveseat: Sofa without Arms is based on an in-depth study of Michel Ducaroy's original TOGO Loveseat without Arms. The original TOGO design was unveiled at the Salon des Arts Ménagers in Paris in 1973. Initially met with skepticism, it quickly gained popularity and has been considered a staple in Avant-Garde & Experimental design.

The Partir Ducaroy series are standalone or modular pieces, providing a versatile seating solution with a bohemian touch.

Archetype Forms Partir Ducaroy Loveseat: Sofa without Arms

The Partir Ducaroy Loveseat: Sofa without Arms is Archetype Forms' version of Michel Ducaroy's original TOGO Loveseat Without Arms model R 3231. It features a distinctive low-slung profile with deeply quilted cushioning that creates the TOGO sofa's signature wave-like contours.

This armless loveseat eliminates traditional internal framing to combine three densities of polyether foam as the structure and for ergonomic comfort. It is wrapped in a quilted polyester-filled cover, then finished with an upholstery of your choice.

The TOGO's innovative frameless approach won Michel Ducaroy the René-Gabriel Prize at the 1973 Salon des Arts Ménagers in Paris, honoring the TOGO sofa as "innovative and democratic furniture." The design established the TOGO as an icon of 1970s French design, a status that remains today.

Shop the Archetype Forms Partir Ducaroy Loveseat: Sofa without Arms, modelled from an in-depth study of the original TOGO Loveseat Sofa without Arms designed by Michel Ducaroy, online in the USA and Canada. Designer

Michel Ducaroy

Michel Ducaroy (1925–2009) was a French furniture designer known for pioneering foam-based furniture construction. Born in Lyon, he began his career in the 1950s and spent over three decades developing innovative seating designs. His most recognizable work is the Togo sofa series (1973). It eliminated traditional internal framing in favor of an all-foam construction using multiple densities of polyether foam. The signature quilted, wave-like silhouette earned him the René-Gabriel Prize at the Salon des Arts Ménagers in Paris.

Construction

Frame & Cushioning: Three Densities of Polyether Foam

Foam Cover: Quilted Polyester Batting Fill

Upholstery: Custom selection of Leather, Nubuck, or Fabric from Archetype Forms

The structure of the Archetype Forms Partir Ducaroy sofa is made of triple-density foam for comfort and stability. Sandwiched between the foam structure and covering is a polyester batting fill quilted to the upholstery backing. This gives the upholstery material additional substance, body, comfort, and refinement.

The Archetype Forms Partir Ducaroy collection is based on an in-depth study of Michel Ducaroy's original TOGO series. We reproduce with the same materials and specifications, enhanced by our custom upholstery selection.
